Using the BDNA Connector
With the BDNA Connector, you can import new data or update information on objects already imported into HOPEX.
Importing new data
The Functional Administrator is in charge of importing data related to software technologies from BDNA Technopedia. The BDNA Connector of ITPM enables to define the scope of data to extract from BDNA.
To import data with the BDNA Connector:
1. Connect to ITPM as a Functional Administrator.
2. On the IT Portfolio Management desktop, click the navigation menu, then Inventory.
3. In the Inventory navigation pane, you have access to the following folders:
• BDNA technology types
• BDNA vendors
• BDNA technologies
Technology types
Importing technology types implies import of all technology types of the BDNA repository.
To import technology types:
1. In the Inventory navigation pane, click Types of BDNA technology.
The import tool appears in the edit area.
2. Click Import.
The list of technology types appears.
3. Click the technology type to see its properties.
Vendors
To import a vendor:
1. In the Inventory navigation pane, click BDNA vendors.
2. In the edit area, click the Import button.
You can search a vendor by specifying:
• The Industry within which a vendor belongs, based on the majority of their products.
• The vendor name.
• The Owner of the vendor. For example, Microsoft is now the owner of Skype.
• The Tier level: categorization of vendors based on priority/importance. For example level 1: well-known vendors.
3. Click Next.
The result window appears. It displays names of the vendors corresponding to the search.
4. Select the vendors you want to import into HOPEX and click Import.
The name of the vendor(s) you selected appear.
Technologies
You can import software technologies by name or by selecting technology types and vendors.
Updating Existing Data
At any time you can update information available on software technologies and vendors imported into HOPEX.
To do so:
1. In the Inventory navigation pane, click BDNA Vendors or BDNA Technologies or Software Technologies, depending on the objects you want to update.
2. In the edit area, click the Update button.
If necessary, click
to display the hidden commands.
