Data Categorization
Categorizing data is a pre-requisite to data compliance as it enables to deduce the external and internal regulations that apply to data items.
The Hopex Data Architecture and Hopex Data Governance Solutions provide a list of categories used to categorize data.
Examples of data classification:
• Sensitive data
• Reference data
• Confidential data
Accessing Data Categories
In Hopex Data Architecture
To access data categories in Hopex Data Architecture:
1. Click the Dictionaries navigation menu.
2. Click Browse
then Dictionnaires.

In Hopex Data Governance
To access data categories in Hopex Data Governance:
1. Click the Architecture navigation.
2. Click the Browse

4. In the edit area, unfold the Data Categories folder.
Creating a Data Category
To create a data category:
1. See Accessing Data Categories.
2. In the edit area, right-click the Data Categories folder.
3. Click New > Data Category.
4. In the creation wizard specify the name of the category and the owner if appropriate.
5. Click OK.
The category appears in the list. You can enter a description.
Defining a Category on Business Data
A data item can belong to one or more data categories.
To indicate which category a data item belongs to:
1. Open the properties of the data item in question.
2. Click the Characteristics page.
3. In the Data Categories section, select the relevant category.
Associating a Data Category with a Regulatory Framework
You can indicate that a regulatory framework relates to a data category, for example, "sensitive" data. All data that falls into this category is subject to the regulatory framework.
To define a data category on a regulatory framework:
1. Click the Dictionaries navigation menu then the Dictionairies tab.
2. Open the regulatory frameworks properties.
3. Click the Constrained Data Categories page.
4. Click New to create a category or Connect to connect an existing category.
You can also define categories in Hopex from data imported via an Excel file.
