Searching the Data Catalog
The HOPEX search tool enables you to search for metadata discovered and imported in a data catalog. In the search results you can:
• identify the origin and the people responsible for the metadata
• see the use of metadata in processes and applications
• access technical data lineage, to visualize data processing and data flows
• see associated quality policies and regulations
Performing a Search
You can access the search function from your HOPEX desktop toolbar.

To use the glossary, the repository must be indexed. Repository indexing is performed by your administrator.

The metadata concerned by the search are meta datasets, simple and structured meta fields, schemas, metadata views and deployed data stores. You can search for all or some of these objects.
The tool searches for character strings in the Name and Description of metadata.
To search for metadata in the data catalog:
1. On the Home page, click within the search tool frame.
2. Click on the drop-down menu that appears. By default, it displays the main objects.
The last list selected then becomes the default list.3. Select Data Catalogs.
4. Enter the name or first few letters of the metadata you are looking for.
Used at the end of a word as in "Liberal*", the asterisk allows you to find the different suffixes like "Liberalism" or "Liberalization".The list of matching objects appears.
5. Click View all results to display in details the results and access additional filters.
Result filters
You can refine the results using the filters in the left panel. The filters proposed depend on the results obtained: for example, when the search term appears in several business dictionaries, the filter allows you to restrict the search to one of the business dictionaries found.
View Metadata Details
When you select a metadata in the result list, further information appears on the right side of the edit area.
The Overview tab shows:
• Responsibilities on the metadata
• Indicators about the objects associated with the metadata
• A description
• The metadata structure
The Advanced tab shows:
• Data lineages
• Applications and processes that use the metadata
• Quality policies that address the metadata
• The related regulations
The Data Processing tab displays in a dendrogram report details of physical data processing scanned and imported from Manta in HOPEX Data Governance.
