Search by Object Type
*If your repository is indexed, you can perform a full-text search, see Full-text Search.
Accessing the search by object type
You can access the search by object type from:
the quick search toolbar of your HOPEX desktop.
the properties page of an object to connect objects
the advanced searched tool
Using the NearMatch search
You can perform “NearMatch” searches when using the search by object type tool:
Fuzzy searching
Fuzzy searching enables to find a potentially misspelled word. It is useful to bypass typographical errors.
E.g.: searching for “manage” will show results with “monage”.
You can adjust the level of fuzziness from 1 to 10. The higher the level is, the higher the tolerance for differences is and the more these differences can occur at the beginning of the word. The default value is 4. The length of the word to search must be greater that this value.
*To modify the fuzziness tolerance level: in Options > Tools > Query, modify the value for NearMatch approximation level.
Phonic searching
The phonic search feature looks for a word that sounds like the one you are searching for and starts with the same letter.
E.g.: searching for “seftwere” returns results with “software”, “braquedone” returns results with “breakdown”, “clems” returns results with “claims”.
Stemming
Stemming expands the research to cover the grammatical changes of a word.
E.g.: a search on “manage” will return results containing: “manage”, “manager”, “management”.
You can resort to the NearMatch feature only when your repository is indexed. As the indexing runs every 10 minutes by default, you may have to wait for up to 10 minutes to obtain exhaustive results.
*To activate and customize a repository indexing, see "Enabling and Customizing Repository Indexing".
Performing a search by object type
The search by object type bar includes two fields:
Select an object type, listing all the objects of a same type.
Object types available in the list are adapted to your needs in the Solution.
*To perform a search on other object types, see Advanced Search.
*(Experienced users) To display the technical metamodel, access your options, then in the tree select Repository > Metamodel, in the right pane select Display technical metamodel: “Yes”.
Find object enables, if needed, to refine the search by adding a character string to search for.
You can perform the character string search on:
the object name (by default its short name).
To perform a search on the long name of the object: clear Short Name.
You can perform an exact search and define the location of the character string:
at the start (Beginning exactly with)
at the end (Ending exactly with)
without specifying (by default) (Containing exactly).
If your repository is indexed, you can perform a NearMatch search (Containing).
The object comment.
You can carry out:
an exact search (by default) (Containing exactly).
A NearMatch search (Containing).
the object name and its comment.
To perform a search on an object type:
1. On your HOPEX desktop, in the search by object type bar, in the Select an object type drop-down list, select an object type.
E.g.: Application
2. (If necessary) To refine your search:
In the Find object field, enter the character string to be searched.
Eg.: management
*By default, the first search deals with the objects of the selected type and whose short name includes the character string entered exactly.
(If necessary) In the Find object drop-down list, modify the search definition.
*This new definition is saved by default.
E.g.: the applications whose short name near matches with "manoge".
3. Click Find .
The search result is displayed as a list in the selected window.
