A Workflow Instance is the object created when a workflow is started. Its definition is given by the definition of the associated workflow. The Workflow Instance assures the sequence flow of operations enabling execution of the corresponding work by managing Workflow Status.

A current Workflow Status is determined for the Workflow Instance at a given moment in time and for a given Person (System). Output Workflow Transitions of the current Workflow Status can be triggered by this Person (System) to indicate that the expected corresponding operation has been performed.
